doctor in Las Vegas

Finding the right doctor in Las Vegas can be challenging, especially if you're new to the city or have never needed medical care before. With countless options from which to choose, it can be overwhelming to know where to start your search. However, with some research and helpful tips, you can find a Las Vegas doctor who meets your needs and provides the deserved care and attention.

Factors To Consider When Looking for a Primary Care Doctor

Although asking for recommendations from friends, neighbors, and co-workers can be a useful starting point, it is crucial to determine which physician is the best fit for your unique needs and situation.

It is essential to note that your insurance plan may limit your options to a select group of plan-approved physicians or offer incentives to use plan-affiliated doctors. It is always recommended to carefully review your insurance terms to determine if they will cover visits to the doctor you are considering.

Additionally, it is crucial to consider the type of physician you are searching for. Most health plans require you to choose a primary care doctor who manages your overall care and refers you to specialists as needed. You may require a specialist who understands your health needs if you have a chronic or disabling condition. Here are some things you must consider if you are searching for a primary care doctor near me.

Location

When searching for a primary care doctor in Las Vegas, location should be one of your top considerations. You want to find a doctor who is conveniently located and easily accessible from your home or workplace. A good location can make it easier to schedule appointments and ensure you can get the necessary care when needed.

Experience and Credentials

Another essential factor to consider is the doctors' experience and credentials. You should consider a doctor who has been practicing for several years and has a proven record of providing high-quality care. Check to see if the primary doctor is board-certified in their specialty, as this indicates that they have undergone additional training and met specific standards of care.

Specialty

Family medicine doctors in Las Vegas specialize in different areas, so it's essential to find a doctor specializing in the required care type. For instance, if you have a chronic illness, you may want to find a doctor specializing in that condition. Similarly, if you're looking for a pediatrician for your child, you'll want to find a doctor specializing in children's care.

Visit the Doctor

One of the best ways to determine if you have chosen the right primary care doctors in Las Vegas is to have an in-person meeting at their office. It would help to make yourself feel comfortable in the office as you meet with the physician and staff. Your primary care doctors should be people you can count on and trust to manage your healthcare. Discussing with your doctor to ensure you are on the same page regarding your medical history and medications is crucial.

During your visit, you should also consider other factors, such as the behavior of the staff who answer the phone and greet you at the office. Are they friendly and efficient? How quickly are calls answered? How far in advance do you need to book an appointment? And what is the wait time to see the family medicine doctor once you arrive for your appointment?

What Causes High Cholesterol Levels

Cholesterol is a waxy material found in the blood that your body needs to build healthy cells. However, having high levels of cholesterol increases your risk of heart disease. High cholesterol levels cause you to develop fatty deposits in your blood vessels, which make it hard for your blood to flow through your arteries. Sometimes, this will cause them to break suddenly and form a clot that can cause either a heart attack or stroke.

Some people wonder if high cholesterol is based on genetics. While high cholesterol can be inherited, it most often is caused by eating a lot of high cholesterol foods, such as cheese and shellfish. At HEALOR™, Dr. Raj Singh helps his patients in Las Vegas, NV treat high cholesterol. A healthy diet and regular exercise help you reduce your high cholesterol.

What causes high cholesterol?

Cholesterol is carried through your blood, and then it will attach to proteins. This is known as a lipoprotein. There are different types of cholesterol that are based on what the lipoprotein carries, including:

A lipid profile measures triglycerides, a fat in the blood. Having a high triglyceride level increases your risk of heart disease. There are some factors that you can control to keep your cholesterol low, including living an active life, eating a healthy diet, and maintaining a healthy weight. However, even after doing those things, your genetics may make you more likely to keep cells from removing LDL cholesterol efficiently, leading to high cholesterol.

Diagnosing high cholesterol

At HEALOR™, we use a blood test known as a lipid panel to check cholesterol levels in our patients in Las Vegas, NV. This test will show us your total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. Dr. Singh recommends you do not eat or drink anything (other than water) for 9 – 12 hours before a blood sample is taken.

Your cholesterol levels are measured in milligrams of cholesterol per deciliter of blood. The ideal total cholesterol levels are below 200 mg/dL. The best levels are below 100 mg/dL for LDL cholesterol and below 70 mg/dL for those that are at risk for diabetes or heart disease. The best HDL cholesterol reading is 60 mg/dL and above.

High cholesterol treatment

If Dr. Singh diagnoses you with high cholesterol after your blood results at HEALOR™, he will make lifestyle change suggestions. However, if you have made these important lifestyle changes and your cholesterol levels remain high, he may recommend medication. Dr. Singh uses statins, bile-acid-binding resins, cholesterol absorption inhibitors, fibrates, niacin, and injectable medications to help treat high cholesterol.

How to lower high cholesterol

The same heart-healthy lifestyle choices that help lower your cholesterol can help you to prevent getting it at all. To help prevent high cholesterol, you should:

Learn your cholesterol levels at an annual wellness visit

When you want to know your cholesterol levels, schedule a lipid profile at HEALOR™. Dr. Raj Singh can read your blood test results and diagnose high cholesterol or other manageable diseases that may be affecting your overall health. To schedule this blood test, call our Las Vegas, NV, office today.

How Does HPV Affect the LGBTQ Community

Ultimately, nearly all sexually active people in Las Vegas, NV, will get human papillomavirus (HPV) at some time in their life without the HPV vaccine. HPV is a group of more than 200 viruses that can infect the skin or mucous membranes. HPV infections typically are asymptomatic and resolve on their own; however, unresolved infections caused by certain subtypes can result in genital warts, recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, and even cancer. At HEALOR™ , double board-certified physician Dr. Raj Singh can help his patients to prevent HPV in women and men with the HPV vaccine.

Understanding HPV transmission

Knowing how HPV is spread is important. You can get HPV by having sex with someone who has HPV. This disease is spread easily during anal, oral, or vaginal sex as well as other close skin-to-skin touching during sex.

About HPV symptoms

Dr. Singh can explain the most common signs of HPV to his patients in Las Vegas, NV.

Most men who get HPV don’t ever develop symptoms. For women, HPV can be detected with a Pap test, which looks for abnormal cells in your cervix. While a PAP doesn’t test for cancer or HPV, it can notice these changes that most likely are caused by HPV. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Singh if you’re experiencing anything new and unusual, including lumps, sores, or warts.

HPV treatment

Many patients wonder how long it takes for HPV to go away. Ultimately, most infections go away on their own. Where there is no cure for the virus, there are treatment options available for the issues that HPV may cause patients at HEALOR™.

For our female patients, you may need additional tests or treatment, including:

1. Colposcopy: This procedure looks at the cervix to find precancerous cells.

2. Cryotherapy: This freezes and removes precancerous cervical cancer cells.

3. Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP): This removes precancerous cells from the cervix with electrical currents.

Can HPV cause cancer?

Yes. HPV itself isn’t cancer, but it can cause changes in your body that lead to cancer. Some of the most common cancers caused by HPV include; cervical cancer, penile cancer, oropharyngeal, and anal cancer. Your cancer will develop very slowly and may not be diagnosed for years. While there is no way to know who will have only a temporary HPV infection, it’s important to seek medical attention from a professional, such as Dr. Singh at HEALOR™. He proudly treats the LGBTQ community and offers STI/STD testing at his Las Vegas, NV office.

How can I lower my chance of getting HPV?

Two ways that you can lower your chances of getting HPV and HPV-related diseases are getting vaccinated and using condoms. The HPV vaccine protects men and women from STI. Condoms reduce your chance of getting STIs, including HPV. However, HPV can infect areas that aren’t covered with a condom, so it isn’t a foolproof way to prevent getting HPV.

Bioidentical hormones are specially made compounds that match the natural hormones that your body creates. When bioidentical hormones are put into the body, patients begin to feel normal again. How Effective is PRP Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction

PRP therapy for erectile dysfunction is effective treatment to help improve sexual dysfunction.

Are you embarrassed or self-conscious about your inability to maintain an erection? Sexual dysfunction occurs when someone has issues with their normal sexual responses. This will interfere with their ability to be satisfied. As we age, our bodies change in many ways that can affect our sex lives negatively. While sexual dysfunction can affect both men and women, we treat our male patients who are experiencing erectile dysfunction in Las Vegas, NV.

At HEALOR™, our double board-certified physician, Dr. Raj Singh, specializes in treating sexual dysfunction in men. This helps improve blood flow and improve a man’s ability to maintain an erection.

What is erectile dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction (ED) can cause low sexual desire, inability to have or maintain an erection, or inability to ejaculate. Thankfully, erectile dysfunction can be treated and managed by Dr. Singh at HEALOR Primary Care. Some side effects of erectile dysfunction include:

Causes of erectile dysfunction

Male sexual arousal involves different parts of the body, and with one problem somewhere in the framework, erectile dysfunction can occur. Certain health conditions, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes, can lead to ED symptoms too. Alcoholism, tobacco use, and some sleep disorders also can lead to sexual dysfunction. Stress or mental health concerns can cause or worsen erectile dysfunction.

Diagnosing erectile and sexual dysfunction in men

During a physical exam with Dr. Singh, we can diagnose sexual dysfunction without any testing. If you have symptoms of erectile dysfunction in Las Vegas, NV, it’s important that you schedule an appointment at HEALOR™ as soon as possible. We can help you pinpoint the cause of your ED so that you can resolve your dysfunction quickly. After we learn about your health and sexual history, we can recommend diagnostic tests that help us rule out different medical conditions that could be contributing to and/or causing your erectile dysfunction.

What is PRP treatment?

PRP therapy stimulates collagen in the penile tissue to help improve blood flow. We take some blood from you and then put it in a centrifuge, which separates the growth factors and platelet-rich plasma in the blood. It is then made into a serum, placed into a syringe, and re-injected into the penis. This can regenerate new and healthy cells into an area that has diseased or damaged ones. To maintain your results, you will require follow-up appointments. Because it takes some time for stem cells to regenerate and replace damaged cells, you may not see results for at least a few weeks.

Will Testosterone Make Trans Men More Masculine?

Curious Will Testosterone Make Trans Men More Masculine?

Transitioning is an important decision for many of our patients at HEALOR™ in Las Vegas, NV. Whether you’re deciding to do a female to male transition or a male to female transition, it’s important to work with an experienced doctor, like double board-certified physician Dr. Raj Singh. He has worked with the LGBTQ community for years and has helped them start their gender affirmation journey, and provided other LGBTQ health services.

Gender dysphoria is the belief that someone’s identity doesn’t match their biological sex. This can lead to anxiety and depression over time. Those with gender dysphoria often choose to transition to their preferred gender. We provide consultations to help patients learn if they’re a candidate for transgender hormone therapy. For patients wanting a female to male transition, we will use testosterone treatment. During this visit, we will learn if you’re healthy enough for this hormone replacement treatment.

What does hormone replacement therapy do to the body?

Transgender hormone replacement therapy involves administering different hormones to help patients acquire the look of their preferred gender. For patients wanting a female to male transition, this involves testosterone. At HEALOR™, Dr. Singh offers a safe space for patients receiving hormone replacement therapy. We administer hormones through pills, topical creams, or even by injection.

Dr. Singh is highly-trained and experienced with hormone therapy and can determine the proper method and dosage for each patient at his Las Vegas, NV office. Your results occur over time. We like to start with low dosages to make sure your treatment is as safe as possible. Many of our patients experience changes in their appearance in six months to a year after starting transgender hormone therapy.

Physical changes of trans men during testosterone therapy

Ultimately, each patient can experience different ftm testosterone effects from hormone replacement therapy. Some common physical effects of this therapy include:

  1. Increased facial or body hair
  2. Deepening of the voice
  3. Irregular periods or complete cessation of menstrual periods
  4. Muscle growth

During your visit, Dr. Singh can discuss these physical changes, so you will be aware of them before they occur.

FAQs about transgender hormone therapy

What is Medically Managed Weight Loss?

Some overweight people have been going it alone for years. There is no need. On a medically supervised weight loss program, you have a team of specialists in your corner. We’ve got your back! This support comes in the form of people that understand and are happy to help you take the weight off safely. They understand that willpower does not play a part in this equation.

The Assessment

A first-time patient can expect to provide a weight-focused medical history. You will also answer questions about diet and exercise. Be honest. Be upfront. There is no judgment. We are only asking so that we better understand what you have tried on your own or with the help of others. What worked and didn’t work and why.

Finally, you will discuss all of your medications and other health ailments that are the reasons for these medications. Some actually put weight on while others keep it on. So we need to go over the medications as a way of understanding if there is something beyond your control that is holding you back. In addition, maybe there is a better medication for the job. We will discover that together. Typically an EKG is also required for medical clearance.

The Program

Once medical clearance is achieved it’s on to the exciting part, starting your program. Whether your program is shakes, protein bars or other specialized foods or standard food from the grocery store and different ways to prepare it, the goal is to keep your weight loss in mind. Bask in the achievements. Learn from past mistakes. This is all about progress and forward movement.

Weekly Sessions

Weekly sessions will ensure that continued progress remains in your sights. Support is there for you should you have questions or concerns. Weekly group meetings ensure that you will hear other stories of success and yes, some of the failures and how that person got back on track to work the program all the way to success. This is truly a supportive environment with your best interests in mind.

How much will I lose?

First, let’s realize that everyone is different. Your weight loss may not be typical. You may lose more or less. A good rule of thumb is to have a 10% weight loss in mind overall. In the first 90 days of any program you start, you should see roughly a 5% weight loss. This is both safe and achievable.

Exercise

Exercise for those that are able will help with weight loss. In most cases, if you are morbidly obese you can still participate in a modified exercise program. Your counselor may discuss this in a group or individually tailor a program to your needs. In the beginning, we suggest that learning to follow the eating guidelines is more important. Exercise will pick up during the next phase of the program, but in the meantime, there are things you can do to prepare yourself, such as parking further away from the entrance at any store you visit. This is a good option because you can do it by parking rows and increase 2 rows at a time each time you visit the store. Before you know it you will be parking and walking several hundred steps just to enter the store. That’s good exercise! Remember to discuss options with our staff, before beginning any exercise program on your own.

Celebrate your Success!

Celebrate each success, each small step towards your goal. Every step along the way means you are that much closer to your goal. Ladies this could be a manicure, a new haircut, a new top. Gentlemen, a haircut, massage or a new pair of pants might be in your future.

Maintenance

Once you have achieved your weight loss goal, keeping the weight off is the next step; assuring that your new habits continue as you move towards a brighter, slimmer future. Your counselor will discuss an appropriate maintenance program with you as well as continued infrequent visits to our office to check on your progress.

Take a step in the right direction today. Leave behind the life of fad diets and begin the rest of your life right here with the support and medical backup you need.

Did you know… We can help you with your weight loss!

How to Know if You Have High Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a waxy material found in the blood. Your body needs cholesterol to build healthy cells; however, high levels of cholesterol increase your risk of heart disease. When you have high cholesterol, you develop fatty deposits in your blood vessels. These deposits grow and make it difficult for enough blood to flow through your arteries. Sometimes, they can break suddenly and form a clot that causes either a heart attack or stroke.

While high cholesterol can be inherited, it usually is caused by eating a lot of high cholesterol foods, including cheese and shellfish. However, at HEALOR™, double board-certified physician Dr. Raj Singh can help his patients treat high cholesterol if they have been diagnosed. Ultimately, a healthy diet, regular exercise, and medication in Las Vegas, NV can help reduce high cholesterol.

What causes high cholesterol?

Cholesterol is carried through your blood and attaches to proteins. This is called a lipoprotein. There are different types of cholesterol, which are based on what the lipoprotein carries, including:

A lipid profile measures triglycerides, a type of fat in the blood. Having a high triglyceride level can also increase your risk of heart disease. There are some factors that you can control, including a sedentary life, unhealthy diet, and obesity. However, your genetics can make you more likely to keep cells from removing LDL cholesterol efficiently or cause your liver to produce too much cholesterol too.

Diagnosing high cholesterol

At HEALOR™, a blood test to check cholesterol levels, known as a lipid panel or lipid profile, can report total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. Dr. Singh recommends his patients in Las Vegas, NV, do not eat or drink anything (other than water) for 9 – 12 hours before a blood sample is taken.

Cholesterol levels are measured in milligrams of cholesterol per deciliter of blood. Ideal total cholesterol leaves are below 200 mg/dL. The best levels are below 100 mg/dL for LDL cholesterol or below 70 mg/dL for those at risk for diabetes or heart disease. The best HDL cholesterol readings are 60 mg/dL and above.

High cholesterol treatment

If Dr. Singh diagnoses you with high cholesterol after a lipid panel at HEALOR™, lifestyle changes – such as exercising and eating a healthy diet – are the first suggestions made to treat high cholesterol. However, if you have made these important lifestyle changes and your cholesterol levels remain high, medication may be recommended. The medication used will depend on your age, health, and your risk factors. Dr. Singh uses statins, bile-acid-binding resins, cholesterol absorption inhibitors, fibrates, niacin, Omega-3 fatty acid supplements, and injectable medications for his patients.

How to lower high cholesterol

The same heart-healthy lifestyle choices that help lower your cholesterol can help prevent you from having high cholesterol. To help prevent high cholesterol, you should:

When you want to ensure your health is at its best, schedule a lipid profile at HEALOR™. Female Sexual Dysfunction

Female sexual dysfunction or sexual problems occur when an individual or couple faces an issue during any phase of the sexual response cycle. This issue prevents them from experiencing satisfaction from sexual activity.

There are four main phases of the sexual response cycle: excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution.

Only 43% of women with sexual dysfunction report this issue, making it a widespread problem that often goes ignored. People may be hesitant or embarrassed to discuss this issue, but it is essential to remember that it is treatable. Sharing your concerns can make your sexual life much healthier.

Causes of Female Sexual Dysfunction

Female sexual dysfunction is attributed to two main areas: psychological and physical.

Physical causes can include different medical conditions. You may face problems due to heart disease, diabetes, hormonal imbalances, neurological diseases, menopause, chronic diseases like liver failure, and drug or alcohol abuse. Certain medications can also have side effects that affect sexual function and desire.

Psychological causes can include depression, anxiety, stress, guilt, relationship problems, concerns about sexual performance, or past sexual trauma.

Female Sexual Dysfunction Effects on Women

There are some common problems that women may face due to female sexual dysfunction. These can include:

Inhibited Sexual Desire can result in a lack of interest or desire for sex. It can be attributed to hormonal changes, medical conditions, medication, pregnancy, depression, fatigue, and stress. Dull, regular sexual routines can also lead to low enthusiasm for sex and exhausting lifestyle factors such as caring for children.

The inability to Become Aroused can be due to insufficient vaginal lubrication due to inadequate stimulation. The blood flow can also affect the clitoris and vagina in some cases.

Anorgasmia is the inability to achieve an orgasm that women often face. It can be caused by sexual inhibition, lack of knowledge, inexperience, and insufficient stimulation. Certain medication and chronic diseases can also prevent sexual climax. Psychological factors such as guilt, feelings of sin or shame, anxiety, and past sexual trauma or abuse can also negatively affect orgasms.

Painful Intercourse can be caused by poor lubrication, pelvic mass, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, vaginitis, sexually transmitted diseases, or the presence of scar tissue from surgery. Many of these diseases are not in the common knowledge of women and often go undiagnosed even after many checkups due to bias in medicine. The fear that women may have about the pain of intercourse or past sexual trauma can also cause sexual problems. This issue is relatively unknown to people and can go untreated.

Diagnosis of Female Sexual Dysfunction

Female sexual dysfunction diagnosis is a complicated process. A woman’s pain is often undermined and goes undiagnosed due to bias in medicine. Women need to ensure that their doctor takes a thorough physical examination, evaluation of symptoms, and medical history. Pelvic exams to check the health of reproductive organs and a Pap smear may also be needed.

Diagnosing psychological causes can be essential to address fear, anxiety, relationship problems, drug or alcohol use, and past sexual trauma or abuse.

Treatment of Female Sexual Dysfunction

Unlike male sexual dysfunction, there is no Viagra pill that women can take to cure female sexual dysfunction. The best approach possible is to treat the condition through the combined efforts of the patient, their doctors, and trained therapists. Treatment strategies can include the following:

Is There a Cure for Female Sexual Dysfunction?

Treatment for female sexual dysfunction can be successful, depending on the underlying cause of the problems. If a reversible or treatable condition causes sexual dysfunction, the outlook for positive results is good. Even mild dysfunction due to anxiety, stress, or fear can be treated with improved communication between partners, education, and counseling. However, treatment for more significant underlying issues is more complex due to a lack of research and possible treatment strategies.

Effect of Hormones on Female Sexual Dysfunction

Hormones can affect sexual function and desire in women. Many women may experience changes in sexual function as they age, as a decrease in the female estrogen hormone occurs due to menopause and aging. Aging can also decrease genital sensation and vaginal lubrication. Low testosterone levels can also cause a decline in genital excitement, orgasm, and sexual arousal. Research on the effects of medication and hormones is still being conducted to treat sexual problems in women.

Effect of Hysterectomy on Female Sexual Dysfunction

Changes in sexual function can occur after a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus), which includes the loss of desire, genital sensation, and decreased vaginal lubrication. This problem may be caused by the hormonal changes after such a procedure. Blood vessels or nerves can also become damaged, affecting sexual function.

Effect of Menopause on Female Sexual Dysfunction

The loss of estrogen during menopause can lead to changes in sexual function. Emotional changes may also cause inhibited sexual desires. Vaginal lubricants or Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can improve such conditions.

Some postmenopausal women may also experience increased sexual satisfaction. They may stop taking birth control pills that are affecting their sexual desires. They may even have decreased anxiety with regard to becoming pregnant. Fewer child-rearing responsibilities can allow them to enjoy intimacy and relax with their partners.

It is essential to seek help if you face female sexual dysfunction. There is also a need to conduct more research into female anatomy and female sexual issues to help women in a better way.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 keeps those red blood cells coursing through the body! B12 helps them keep their round shape so they can freely move from the bone marrow to the bloodstream at a steady and appropriate rate, but these are only a few of the health benefits of vitamin B12.

If the blood cells gain some weight, increase in size, sometimes causing them to look more oval, then moving from bone marrow to bloodstream becomes more difficult and slows down, causing a deficiency. This can lead to a physical condition called Megaloblastic Anemia.

Anemia

Anemia is a scary world. It means your body doesn’t have enough of those healthy red blood cells carrying oxygen to your vital organs, like the brain! So if memory and fatigue become an issue, this could be the cause. Being low on B12 can lead to conditions like Osteoporosis as well. We usually hear more about Osteoporosis in women but it does happen to men as well. So watch for broken bones that happen too easily as well. Take note that B12 won’t improve your mood if you aren’t already on the low end of the levels required. But if you are and are experiencing lulls in your mood, then it’s worth a try.

Huh? Memory

Poor memory performance is another factor of low B12. Supplementing B12 coupled with Omega 3 Fatty Acids may help prevent memory loss or dementia and even if the process has already started it can serve to slow the decline which is very helpful to these patients in the long run. Adding any amount of time to a life where you are cognizant and functioning is a plus.

My Long Luxurious Locks

Hair, skin and nail support is another plus of Vitamin B12. Low B12 levels can result in hyperpigmentation or vitiligo (those white intermittent patches that look like bleached areas of skin), discoloration of nails and changes to the hair.
